Rooftop Cinema: The Grand Bizarre
A new feature from animator Jodie Mack takes a global journey through local textiles to produce a dynamic abstract travelogue—a postcard from an imploded society. Bringing mundane objects to life to interpret place through materials, The Grand Bizarre transcribes an experience of pattern, labor, and alien[-]nation[s]. Following components, systems, and samples in a collage of textiles, tourism, language, and music, the film investigates recurring motifs and how their metamorphoses function within a global economy.
Films begin at sundown, at approximately 9 pm. Rooftop Cinema is free for MMoCA members/$5 for non-members; admission begins at the lobby reception desk 30 minutes before screen time. Screenings relocate to the lecture hall if rain is predicted.
