Description: The Museum was originally built in 1876 as the Sheriff's Office, residence and county jail. The central first floor room displays articles of our heritage, highlighted by a letter written by George Washington. There are war mementos, local items and many precious photographs from yesteryear, taken all over the county. Other points of interest: "Custer's Last Stand", a wood carving created by two Kewaunee craftsman; beautiful life-size statues, carved of Wisconsin basswood, depicting Father Marquette landing at Kewaunee in 1674; the USS Pueblo, built in Kewaunee by the Kewaunee Engineering Corp., and launched April 16, 1944; and gifts from a member of a pioneer Kewaunee family.
Open daily, Memorial Day weekend-Labor Day, 10:30am-4:30pm and other times by appointment. Group tours available.
