Artist statement
My paintings are not meant to convey some deep message that I feel the world should share. They are just an interpretation of what I see, a celebration of the world God gave us. I try to choose subjects and create paintings that provide a moment of happiness or sometimes allow the viewer to lose themselves in them. As for style, I paint fairly realistically but stop short of precise detail, which in a painting can be quite boring. I suppose you could say the paintings are a blend of realism and impressionism using transparent watercolors. I hope my work brings you some moments of peace and pleasure.
Biography
I was born in, Galena, Ill., in 1933 and was surrounded by artists as I grew up. The natural beauty and architecture drew artists to the area in considerable number. My older brother and an aunt attended art schools and lavished attention and instruction upon me. Many hours were spent in the studio and print shop of noted Chicago artist Gordon Martin, who thought I warranted his special attention. Art was not something to be chosen, it was part of my very being. Even during the years after my graduation from the University of Illinois, when I became involved in the business world, my passion was painting. Now, as a senior citizen, I can spend my days painting--not concerned about whether something sells, not concerned about making some social statement, just letting my emotions drive my paintings.
