Artist statement
Madison artist Rachel Davis creates paintings, drawings and sculpture. Her recent work is an aesthetic response to observations of children and how they explore the world. Davis seeks to mimic children's responses to their environment, especially the world of nature. She has a special fondness for the awkward, organic and lumpy-shaped--the wild, colorful little surprises hidden in the outdoors. The objects in her 2001 exhibition at the Wisconsin Academy Gallery were presented as formal specimens, toys, dioramas and landscapes.
Biography
Davis received her M.F.A. degree in printmaking from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She has shown her work locally and in such national venues as the Rockford Art Museum; A.R.C. Gallery, Chicago; and the Stage Gallery, Merrick, New York.
