Artist statement
I was fortunate to grow up in a small town in Wisconsin with Lake Michigan in my backyard and the beauty of Door County less than an hour away. I have been an active oil painter for over 24 years in the Realist tradition and my love for nature and animals has led me to concentrate on painting wildlife, domestic animals and household pets, especially dogs. I also love painting landscapes that are a natural complement to wildlife art and the classic still life because they give me the opportunity to paint using a controlled light source. I have a passion for painting interesting light! Light can make an otherwise ordinary subject quite extraordinary. I am happiest when interacting with animals whether at home or in the wild and has traveled to the ice floes of the Gulf of St. Lawrence to see the Harp Seal pups being born and Churchill, Manitoba, to watch Polar Bears in their natural habitat. I’m active in the Golden Retriever Rescue of Wisconsin and have one very lively Golden of my own.
