Artist statement
I have been drawing and painting ever since I can remember. Raising four sons, too busy to paint, I sketched them whenever they were still enough and have sketch diaries of each one through his childhood. Now that they are grown, I am working on oil portraits of my adult sons and my grandchildren and have done several commissions. In the summer, I work in my garden or at my easel--or both, and have many floral watercolors. Living in rural Wisconsin, I am constantly inspired by the ever-changing landscapes to be captured plein air. I have also traveled extensively and bring my watercolors wherever I go, painting a travelogue through the years--Italy, Ireland, France, Mexico, Costa Rica, the Caribbean, Canada and all over the U.S. The rewards of painting have been tremendous!
Biography
I was born and raised in the Chicago area, studied fine arts at the School of the Art Institute, the American Academy of Art and Oakton Community College.
At Oakton College, I became affiliated with an outstanding group of artists who carried on the tradition of plein air painting. I was a founding member and past president of the Illinois Watercolor Society and am currently affiliated with the Wisconsin Regional Artists Association.
