Voices of Rural Wisconsin Part Three: From Farm to Plate
Familia Zaragosa - Waushara County
The Zaragosa family home is located in the heart of "pickle country" in Waushara County. A profusion of flowers decorates the yard. On-site greenhouses and gardens grow the fruits and vegetables the family markets. For decades, migrant workers of Mexican descent have spent part of the summer in this area, working the fields in brightly colored clothes on hot, sunny days, then leaving when the work is done. The Zaragosas have stayed. They have a flourishing business and are well-known by customers at area markets and by friends and associates in the rural community. José Sr., wife Socorro, and son José Jr. talk about their business and family.
