Author and finance expert Liaquat Ahamed draws parallels between the recent global financial crisis and the Great Depression. He compares conditions leading up to both economic meltdowns--as well as the ways lawmakers handled these financial crises and the periods of recovery that followed--to assess responses that have worked and those that have not. His award-winning book, Lords of Finance: The Bankers Who Broke the World, came out in January 2009. Ahamed's 2009 Academy Evening presentation was organized by the Wisconsin Academy of Sciences, Arts and Letters. (Video courtesy of Madison City Channel.)
