Description: The Rock County Historical Society preserves and maintains four historic sites throughout the city of Janesville. The Helen Jeffirs Wood Museum Center (426 N. Jackson St.) features an exhibit gallery, educational rooms, offices and a gift shop. The Lincoln-Tallman Restorations (440 N. Jackson St.) are the RCHS's main attraction. Visitors can tour the five-level, Italianate-style mansion. Included on the grounds is the Tallman Horse Barn and the Wilson-King Stone House, which now houses the archives and research center. The RCHS also maintains the Frances Willard Schoolhouse (4-H Fairgrounds), a one-room schoolhouse where educational programs are held for school groups in the spring and fall.
Guided tours offered weekends year-round, and daily from June through September. Holiday tours daily from Nov. 20 through Dec. 31. Open from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
