Artist statement
I have always felt a strong attachment to nature, probably from having grown up in a very remote rural area of Southeast Missouri. There is so much beauty to be found in the great outdoors, if one takes the time to look closely. My goal as a photographer is to capture the artistry of Mother Nature using my camera as a means of bringing greater attention to natural beauty.
It is my hope that my photography will lead viewers to a greater awareness of nature and to a deeper appreciation of the beauty around us. I would be particularly pleased if my illustrations of natural beauty encourage more people to active in preserving and protecting delicate environmental features that are a vital source of comfort and inspiration for us today and for future generations.
Biography
I am a self-taught photographer, with some mentoring from friends. My work has appeared on book covers and posters and in magazines, calendars, promotional materials. I am represented by several galleries in south central and southwestern Wisconsin. My photos have received several awards in juried competition. I am a member of the Madison Art Guild, Wisconsin Regional Artists Association, Wisconsin Association of Artists and Craftspeople, The Center for Photography at Madison, and I serve on the Board of Directors of the Richland Area Arts Council.
