Artist statement
After obtaining my art degree, I began a mural painting and faux finish business. I painted on any surface whatever images my clients desired. I painted on drywall, concrete, wood, ceramic tiles, fabric and much more. With my dancer paintings, I am returning to doing work that I consider to be completely my own--my own themes, colors, materials. Pen and ink, watercolor, pastels and collage are all mediums that I love exploring. The performance of dance is a metaphor for life's experiences. Through my paintings, I want to convey expression of pure human emotions such as joy, grief, passion or sorrow. Subject matter simply expresses the beauty of the human form in motion. Combinations of dancers suggest scenarios of stories from the Bible or Greek mytholoogy. I try to capture the pinnacle moments in performance, leaving the viewer to comprehend stories for themselves.
