Artist statement
We think that photography is naturally a documentary medium. I disagree. The choice of a shot, the decisive moment, combined with the photographer's choice of lens, white balance, and overall composition creates an impression of a scene as understood by the photographer. In creating fine art images of landscapes, still life, and portraits, I strive to capture an impression of the subject that reveals a deeper meaning, that suggests a story, and that inspires the viewer.
Biography
I began telling stories as a writer and editor working on magazine features. Storytelling takes place not just in print, but also in visual media. Adding photography and videography to work as a writer seemed a natural and desirable progression. I work as a team with my wife, Denise, who has studied studio art. Together we explore the people and places of Wisconsin with our cameras.
