Artist statement
For me, photography presents a challenge. Unlike painting, I cannot photograph that which I can imagine. Instead, I have to communicate what I feel using an image of tangible objects, and post-process them according to my intuition and knowledge of what makes a good image. I desire to share my images, in which I find an inner stirring, with others. Through this mutual experience, I hope for the observer and I to reach an agreement. An agreement of our basic human similarities.
Biography
I have been interested in art for as long as I can remember. Fifteen years ago, I attended a beginner’s class in watercolor painting, and received accolades in the following years from my art league compatriots. I painted while referring to photographs I took, making modifications as I saw necessary to make a good picture. After retiring from my career in the technical field, I was still painting, but became interested in taking better photographs from which to paint. After a while, my interest in taking photographs eclipsed that of painting. Today, photography is my avid pursuit. I often question why I made the switch from painting to photography, and have concluded it to be a natural transition for me. Studying to paint provided a wonderful self-education in the field of art creation. I now apply those principles to photographs.
